The animals on this page were found as strays (running at large, etc) and are currently being held for the required holding period per Michigan Law for stray animals. Michigan Law requires shelters to hold stray animals for 4 days without a collar and 7 days with a collar to give owners time to call looking for their lost pet(s).
Each animal will have the date of intake along with a note if he or she had a collar or not. Proof of ownership will be requested/required (photos, description of collar, etc).
We do charge $12.00/night for boarding. Please be sure that you call and report your pet missing to the shelter at 231-839-3800. That way, we can reunite you with your lost pet and save you some money. Animals not claimed during the holding period will be put in the adoption program and can be viewed through the adoptable dog or cat pages on this website. They will also be spayed or neutered per shelter policy. Adoption fees: $150.00 Dogs/Puppies, $50 Cats/Kittens.
Dog licenses can be purchased at the Missaukee County Treasurer's Office on Canal Street in Lake City.
Having a collar with license tags helps us here at the shelter among other places reunite lost pets with their owners!
